We provide youths and youth groups with video production training, mentoring, and access to video equipment, as well as community-building activities such as field trips, group workshops, youth-led productions and video screenings. Our participants learn valuable and empowering technical and communication skills that help them to become more confident, articulate, and successful in life. |

YAYA Media is proud to announce the first public screening of the youth-produced documentary, “My Life’s Notice”. On Friday January 11th 2008 YAYA Media is hosting the one-night premier screening of “My Life’s Notice” at the Capitol Theater in downtown Olympia. Special guest speaker Dave Purchase from the Point Defiance AIDS Project/Tacoma Needle Exchange will provide a keynote address. After the documentary, the audience is invited to ask questions of the filmmakers and enjoy a reception with music by DJ Smoke of Oldominion.
In September of 2006, youth involved with YAYA Media began producing this documentary to raise awareness about meth use among young people. “My Life’s Notice” asks the viewer to consider the ways that families, communities, social structures, and traditional and alternative treatment options impact the use of meth and the ways that young people can work through meth addiction. The film provokes an important community dialogue in which the youth affected by meth are a vital part of the conversation. Powerfully produced from an insider’s point of view, “My Life’s Notice”, is a documentary in the style of social realism, rich with observational footage and candid moments. The participatory filmmaking process brings these stories to light in a unique and powerful way, confronting the issues fearlessly and compassionately through an interweaving of personal stories, narrative, and research. This film was produced with support from TOGETHER!, United Communities AIDS Network, Community Youth Services and Thurston Community Television.
